Last day of lca

Highlight so far today was the keynote by Kathy Sierra about reverse engineering passionate users.

As working with PHP is my day job, I attended the compulsory PHP5 talk by Rasmus entitled Creating Faster and Richer Web Apps with PHP5. Due to a few technical hiccups he ran out of time when it came to talking about the new filter extension. Which is a shame as I would have been interested in what he had to say. As you would expect his talk was interesting. I liked his definition of web 2.0 - large fonts! No, web 2.0 is about building a framework allowing users to add the content. For example flickr is nothing without the photos users add.

Just attended the keynote by Chris Blizzard. He's been working on the one laptop per child project. Afterwards, while having morning tea, I got to see one in the flesh. Very cool, the screen puts my thinkpad to shame. It was designed to work in sunny conditions. As you could imagine many of the children who will be using these will be learning in outside environments.

Why not throw myself into the deep end of the blogging world, and open with live blog from lca.
So here I am, driking my coffee (bristot, not bad, except for the funny antispill lip)
waiting for registration to open. The geeks are starting to surface from each corner.
